But here’s the truth: even the most beautiful garden needs a fence. 🌿

You’ve been doing the work to renew your mind and align your habits, and now it’s time to guard the ground you’ve gained. Peace isn’t passive; it’s a position of strength. Protecting it isn’t selfish; it’s spiritual stewardship.

Peace is the proof that you’re walking in divine rhythm. The enemy doesn’t fight your noise; he fights your stillness, because that’s where you hear God clearly. If he can disturb your peace, he can delay your progress. That’s why protecting it matters now more than ever.

✨ Stillness Check-In

Close your eyes for a moment and ask yourself: Where is peace living in my body right now? Sometimes peace doesn’t arrive as calm; it shows up as clarity, stillness, or even the ability to release control. Write down what that might look or feel like for you. This is the beginning of your awareness.

📖 Scripture

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
— Proverbs 4:23 NKJV

God will always protect what you’re willing to prioritize. It may seem strange because it could be an unfamiliar feeling, but train yourself to STAND.
Identify where you feel the peace in your body.

When you choose to stand in your peace, heaven stands with you. Our preparation is meeting transformation.

The last time we spoke, we talked about new beginnings. This week is about anchoring your new habits so what you’ve started can take root and grow.

Take a quick deep breath in for 4 seconds… hold for 7 seconds… then breathe out for 8 seconds… mind clear? Let’s begin.

New beginnings need steady practices to hold the change in place. Think of them as the stakes that support a growing plant or the roots that stabilize a young tree 🌳. Without anchors, new growth can topple under pressure. With anchors, transformation becomes your new normal.

✨ Each small, steady habit is an act of leadership over yourself and a brick in the foundation of your future.

📖 Scripture

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
Galatians 6:9 NKJV

🌱 Today’s Invitation

Take a few minutes to ground yourself and choose what will support you:

1️⃣ Identify One Anchor Habit:
Choose one habit you can practice daily to stabilize your new mindset. This should be simple, sustainable, and life-giving.

Examples:
🌸 Continue a routine from the preparation stage.
🌸 Five minutes of morning gratitude.
🌸 Reading one scripture before opening social media.
🌸 A daily walk with no headphones to pray or reflect.

2️⃣ Pair the Habit with a Mindset Shift:
Write down the belief or attitude that matches the habit. This is how you “train” your mind to link new actions with new thinking.

Example:
Habit: “I will journal for five minutes each night.”
Mindset: “Reflection at night gives me clarity and peace.”

✨ Habits are how you claim territory in your own life.

📝 Journal Prompt

Your pen is one of your strongest anchors. When you write, you root your new habits into your reality. Answer these in your journal:

• What is one habit I can anchor this week to stabilize my new mindset
• Why does this habit matter to me
• How will this habit reinforce my G.O.A.L.

📒 When you see this notebook emoji, please refer to your coaching planner for additional journal work and exercises.

🌟 Extending the Practice of Mindset Matters

This week gives you the invitation to choose your first anchor habits. This is your moment to take ownership of your transformation. Whether you are working with me as your Coach or taking a self-guided journey, your dedication to your Greater Opportunity to take Accountability in the Life we choose to lead will decide how deeply these habits take root.

Inside the coaching space we will take these anchors and stack them into powerful patterns that strengthen your ability to grow, expand and sustain your transformation.

🙏 Closing Prayer / Affirmation

Lord, thank You for the power of small, steady actions. Help me choose anchor habits that keep my mind and heart rooted in You. Strengthen me to be consistent and joyful as I practice them. Let these habits become pillars that hold my transformation steady and overflow into every part of my life. Amen.

🌱 Your mind is shifting.
🌱 Your habits are anchoring.
🌱 Your future is forming.

✨ Stay steady. Keep moving forward. It is an honor to be a guide in this transition.

Today is officially Day 8. Eight represents new beginnings in Scripture. It is the number of resurrection, reset and fresh starts. Yesterday you sealed your preparation. Today you are stepping into living it out.

Mindset Matters will unfold here on the blog with reflections and light activities 💡. In the Mindset Matters coaching sessions we extend the practice with more guided tools, accountability and support to help you live your transformation fully.

This is where your mind begins to notice a pattern and may even try to resist. With dedication to the routine, your mind begins to accept the shift and moves seamlessly into the new rhythm.

Yesterday we set our first G.O.A.L.
🌱 A G.O.A.L. is a Greater Opportunity to take Accountability in the Life we choose to lead.

Today we affirm that our G.O.A.L. is an ongoing practice that is set by intention, with the full understanding that we are now responsible for what grows in the garden of our mind 🌸. Once you take full responsibility for what grows in the garden of your mind, you embody the renewed life you have envisioned. All that preparation was for this moment and will be revealed in your transformation.

📖 Scripture

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Romans 12:2 NKJV

🌱 Today’s Invitation

Take a few minutes to:

1️⃣ Look Back 🔍
Take a look back over the events of the past week. Recognize how far you have come and how God has been present in the process. If you followed along, you even protected that space and made it sacred. This was transformation in the making. You made a decision to do something different and you carried it out in small increments of change. That alone is progress. Now keep moving forward.
✍️ Write down at least two signs of transformation you have noticed.

2️⃣ Identify Attitudes and Anchors 🪨
List one or two attitudes or anchors you will lean on to help you stay steady during this next chapter. Ask yourself, what do I need to get this outcome and how do I maintain an attitude of motion toward that outcome.

This moment of showing up each day has been your reasonable service presenting yourself to God for transformation.

These two steps are your public, light activities. They help you celebrate and stabilize your progress.

🌟 Extending the Practice of Mindset Matters (Coaching)

This blog will guide you through reflections and light activities each week. In the coaching sessions, we extend this practice with additional guidance and accountability to help you integrate what you are learning and create lasting transformation. Think of this as a natural continuation of what you have already begun here.

📝 Journal Prompt

Take a few minutes to answer these in your journal:

✨ What feels new about today compared to last week

🙏 Where in your life do you sense God inviting you to think differently

🚫 What old pattern do you refuse to go back to

🌱 How will your G.O.A.L. this week reflect a new mindset

📒 If you are working with me in the coaching sessions, use your planner for your additional journal work and exercises. I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:18–19 NKJV

Today’s Invitation:
Take 10–15 minutes today to reflect on your prep journey:

• What did God show you about yourself?
• What weeds did you pull up?
• What supports did you put in place?
• How did it feel to invite Jesus into your prepared space?
• What is one G.O.A.L. you would like to set that you can accomplish in one week? (G.O.A.L. = Greater Opportunity Accountability Life. A G.O.A.L. is your chance to step into accountability for your life and decisions that lead to your desired outcome.)

After your reflection, write your own bold declaration of expectancy based on what you discovered.

If you need inspiration, use this affirmation as your starting point:
“Lord, the ground is prepared. I am not going back. Do Your work in me.”

Closing Prayer/Affirmation:
Lord, today I seal this week of preparation in Your presence. The ground is ready. My heart is open. My mind is expectant. I am not going back. Continue the great work You have begun in me and bring forth lasting fruit. Guide me to walk forward in strength and wisdom. Amen.

This is your turning point. This is where preparation becomes transformation. This is where you step into a new way of thinking, a new way of living, and a new rhythm with God. Don’t look back. Just keep moving forward.

With grace and grit

Tavon J. 👑

Ms. Bossed Up

Faith-Led Life Coach | Founder of Boss Up HQ

“Covered by Grace. It’s so sacred I don’t even have a joke to crack about it. The soil has been cleared. Intentions have been aligned. Compassion has been practiced. Rhythms have been set. Obstacles and supports have been named. Now we invite Jesus to step into the middle of the space we have prepared so that He is able to continue the great work in you.

Truly He has been with us all along, but today is about placing Him at the center. It is one thing to prepare the ground. It is another to welcome the Master Gardener to plant, water, prune, and bring the harvest. Pause and picture Him stepping into the garden of your soul, moving gently between the rows.

Scripture:
“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6 NKJV

Today’s Invitation:
Go to your quiet space. That if I followed God’s voice, people would see it, support it, and honor it.

But here’s the truth: God’s yes doesn’t always come wrapped in people’s approval.

Sometimes His yes comes with silence.
Sometimes it comes with side-eyes.
And sometimes it comes with rejection.

That’s where obedience gets tested — not in the ease of agreement, but in the tension of choosing His voice above all others.

🧠 The Weight of Expectation

Carrying expectations can feel like every step is dragging chains you never asked for. It bends your back, tightens your chest, and keeps you looking over your shoulder to see if you’ve done “enough” to earn their nod.

It doesn’t just ask for effort — it drains your energy, steals your peace, and bends your posture.

Expectation says: “Smile when you want to cry.”
Expectation says: “Be strong when you feel weak.”
Expectation says: “Stay in line, don’t disrupt, don’t disappoint.”

The truth? Some of us have carried expectation for so long that our spiritual knees are buckling under the weight. Our souls are tired, and our hearts ache under the pressure of being everything to everyone — while rarely being allowed to be ourselves.

Expectation is heavy because it never loosens its grip. It keeps demanding more: more performance, more compliance, more silence.

And if you let it, expectation will chain you to the back of their vision and drag you down a road you were never meant to travel.

🔥 The Freedom of Obedience

Obedience is different.

Obedience breaks those chains — not because it’s easy, but because it realigns you with God’s design.

Obedience is heavy too, but it’s holy. Its weight builds you, while expectation’s weight breaks you.

Obedience isn’t about blind following — it’s about aligning with a voice that sees the bigger picture when you can’t. Obedience requires trust.

“For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.”
— Galatians 1:10 (NKJV)

Obedience frees you from the prison of performance.
Expectation will keep you shackled to their approval.

✨ Reflection

Where have you chosen people’s expectations over God’s voice?

What approval, sympathy, or affection have you been chasing?

Where is God asking for your yes, even if it looks different to them?

💬 Boss Up Affirmation

I choose obedience over expectation.
I trust His voice above their opinions.
His yes is my anchor.
His voice is my direction.
I walk boldly, even when approval fades.

🎯 Call to Action

God’s yes will never leave you empty — even if it doesn’t come wrapped in the approval you thought you needed.

Drop this in the comments:
“Today, I choose obedience over ___.”

🚪 A Soft Introduction: Mindset Matters

Setting your mind isn’t just about positive thinking — it’s about anchoring yourself in the truth of Christ so deeply that even the gates of Hades cannot prevail against it. That’s why obedience vs. expectation matters so much: it trains your mind to say yes to God above all else.

Over the next few posts, we’re diving into a mini-series called:
Mindset Matters: From Cycles to Clarity to Creation.

First, we’ll break the cycles we’ve inherited.

Then, we’ll build clarity where confusion once lived.

And finally, we’ll step into creation — aligning our big picture with God’s.

So lean in. I didn’t think I was better. I actually believed the opposite.
I didn’t want the world to see how insecure I was, how low my self-esteem felt, so I tried to hide.

So I started naming myself.
First, I called myself “a lot.”
Then I softened it — “high maintenance.”
But none of it really fit.

I couldn’t land on a name that felt like me, because I wasn’t sure who me really was.

So I settled.
Not just in relationships. Not just in jobs.
But in identity.

Not because their words were true — but because I didn’t yet know how to define myself.
So I accepted what was handed to me.
Nicknames that didn’t fit.
Titles that didn’t tell my story.
Roles that silenced the real me.

They didn’t know what God was developing.
They named me too soon.

As Archbishop Wilson always said:
“It’s not about what people call you. It’s about what you answer to.”

That truth found me in the middle of an identity crisis.
Not the kind that shows up in a mirror — the kind that shows up in a moment.
A moment when someone calls you something that doesn’t fit anymore, and you realize…
you’ve outgrown the name.

🧵 The Story

I’ve carried names that never truly belonged to me.

My first last name wasn’t even connected to my bloodline. In the words of our favorite TV show host: “He was NOT the father!!!” 😂🤣😂🤣.

From the very beginning, I was carrying a story that wasn’t mine.

Then came marriage. I took on new names, thinking it meant new identity, new covenant, new belonging. But when it ended, I was left holding onto last names that didn’t represent covenant anymore — just broken promises.

That’s when I realized: every time my last name changed, it wasn’t God’s hand on my identity.
It was my decisions in that season.
I wasn’t standing in who I was called to be.
I was standing in what someone else claimed me to be. Ouch.

And then I came to a place where I had to ask myself…
What if I made up a name? What if I chose one that spoke to my destiny instead of my history?

Because maybe the point was never about whether I kept or dropped a name.
The point was that I was done.
I finally stopped letting people name me too soon.

🧠 My Identity Is Not Up for Debate

To claim my true identity, I had to sit with truths that felt like labor pains.

I had to face this:
Performance, explanation, and control had become my default posture.
Survival mode.

The constant emotional and mental labor of managing perceptions and outcomes.
Living small so others could stay comfortable.

Some names were given to me.
Others I accepted myself.
All of them kept me in a cycle.

But not anymore.

I’m no longer explaining myself into small boxes.
I’m not arguing with assumptions, defending my becoming, or breaking myself into bite-sized pieces to keep others comfortable.

I used to think peace meant making sure people understood my heart, even at the cost of my mental health.
Now I know peace means being whole — whether they understand me or not.

My fruit will speak.
My life will testify.
That is enough.
And so am I.

🔥 I Do Not Belong to What Broke Me

There were people who loved the broken version of me — the one that performed, apologized, and stayed small. They were attached to my potential.

But the moment I began walking in the purpose, posture, and promise of what God named me, their posture changed.

Here’s what I’ve learned:
My personal growth is not disloyalty to the potential you projected onto me.

They loved me when I was broken, but distanced themselves when I became whole.

What I walked through no longer defines me.
What they called me in my wilderness doesn’t apply in my Promised Place.

🕊️ God Was Never Asking Me to Be Her

There’s a silent pressure on women like us:
Keep the image.
Meet the expectations.
Stay predictable.
Smile through silence.

But sometimes obedience to God looks nothing like their expectations.

I wasn’t made to blend into what they understood.
I was made to follow a God who names me according to my assignment — not their comfort.

(Read more about this in my other reflection on obedience vs. expectation → Coming soon.)

💡 The Reflection

Every time I dimmed myself to avoid tension, I wasn’t keeping peace — I was keeping dysfunction alive.

I was protecting someone else’s reason not to grow, at the expense of my own.

They called me “too much.”
They called me “hard to love.”
They called me “extra.”

But none of those were my real name.
Because the truth is: I answer only to who He called me to be.

🔍 Reflection of the Reflection

God gives you a name that doesn’t chain you to history — it pulls you forward into destiny.

Because sometimes the names people give you are really assignments they wanted you to carry: their insecurity, their fear, their need to shrink you down so they could stay comfortable.

✨ Reflection Questions

What names, labels, or roles are you finally ready to stop answering to?

Who did people expect you to be — and how does that differ from who you are now?

Have you mistaken survival roles for identity? What are you ready to release?

🎯 Call to Action

What name are you refusing to answer to?
And what name will you speak?

Drop a comment:
“For me? Now I know silence kept me bound.

In You Don’t Know the Lions That Taught Me How to Hunt, I shared how life trained me to move with strategy, silence, and boldness. Those lessons shaped me.

Then in She Decided to Rise Anyway, I told you about the choice — the moment I refused to stay down, muted, or small. Rising was powerful. But here’s the truth: rising is only the beginning.

Because what good is rising if I keep sitting back down every time “pseudo peace” shows up?

🌱 The Trap of Pseudo Peace

Pseudo peace whispers:

“Don’t rock the boat.”

“Keep things calm.”

“Stay quiet so no one gets upset.”

“Stay quiet...”

“They are just gonna say no, so I won’t say anything about it.”

It feels safe at first. But that “peace” is expensive. It costs you your voice, your presence, your God-given power.

Every time I dimmed myself to avoid tension, I wasn’t keeping peace — I was keeping dysfunction alive. I was protecting someone else’s reason not to grow at the expense of my own growth. I was taking on their tendencies to stay comfortable while robbing myself of divine alignment.

That’s not peace. That’s bondage.
And here’s the truth: bondage keeps you small. Alignment sets you free.

I saw this play out when I spoke up in a space where it became clear: they didn’t want my truth, they just wanted agreement. They wanted to check boxes and keep moving with their own agenda. For a moment, I almost dimmed myself for the sake of false harmony. But instead, I said what needed to be said. And when I did, I realized something: I wasn’t bound to their response. Their rejection of my input actually freed me. Because real peace isn’t found in being accepted — it’s found in standing aligned.

✨ The Shift: Real Peace vs. Fake Peace

Here’s the difference I had to learn:

Fake peace = avoiding conflict, swallowing truth, shrinking light.

Real peace = alignment with God’s will, even if it disrupts false harmony — and even if it means lighting up the room.

Jesus made this clear: “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword.” (Matthew 10:34).

And He also said: “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.” (John 14:27).

That’s the contrast: the world offers fake peace, but Christ offers real peace. One binds you in silence, the other sets you free in truth.

💎 The Resolve

No more dimming.
Not for approval. Not for appearances. Not for comfort. And especially NOT for fake peace.

My presence is not a threat — it’s a light.

My voice is not a problem — it’s a weapon of truth.

My power is not up for negotiation — it’s my gift from God.

If my rising disturbs your false harmony, let the melody cease — because I was created to carry a sound of truth, not a song of silence.

Because the peace I carry now? It’s real, and it’s rooted.

📖 Boss Up Reflection

Hold a mirror up to your life and ask yourself:

Where am I shrinking myself to keep things calm?

Who benefits from my silence — and who loses because of it?

What would real peace look like if I stopped dimming my light?

✨ Declaration

“I refuse to dim my power for pseudo peace. I rise, I shine, and I stay lit — because real peace is found in truth, not in shrinking.”

🔑 This Week’s Charge

When you feel the pull to shrink, pause. Ask yourself: Is this real peace, or fake peace? And then choose light.

Because here’s the truth: fake peace is quiet bondage. Real peace is loud freedom.

High heels + higher truth 👠✝️

Tavon J.
✨ Faith-Led Life Coach | Boss Up Strategist
💜 Helping women reclaim their power & build legacies
🚀 Empowering growth in career, life, and purpose
🔥 “Covered by grace.
